Some of the requirements to do an exam on Synap are different from the requirements to use the system for revision or online learning. This is because high stakes exams have more pressure and a lower tolerance for anything going wrong. The requirements we have made are there to give you the best possible chance of doing your exam with no technical issues.
To do an exam on Synap the compulsory requirements are:
1.Use a computer or laptop
Whilst Synap works well on tablets and mobile phones, for a high stakes organised exam you must take it on a laptop or computer. This is to provide you with the best exam experience.
2. Use Chrome
Google Chrome is a requirement for taking your exam. Synap is optimised for all modern browsers however for the best experience we recommend Chrome. And for high stakes exams, Chrome is the safest option.
3. Stable Internet
Make sure you have a reasonable and continuous internet connection for your exam, as long as you can consistently load the portal and questions you will be fine.
Note : Internet explorer is not supported at all
4. Log into platform ahead of the exam
Your exam organiser usually sets up a ‘System Check’ quiz on their platform to let you test out the system ahead of your exam. Take the opportunity to get yourself logged in and comfortable with the system ahead of the exam day.
5. Make sure Synap is not blocked by a corpate firewall
Make sure Synap is not blocked by a company / corporate firewall if you are doing the exam on a work computer. If it is then you must flag this with your IT team well ahead of the exam for them to unblock.
Make sure your system clock is set to automatic, and on a systems check make sure the timer is correct.
Submitting each question after you have answered it guarantees that it will be saved.
Get comfortable with Long Form Questions
If you are doing an exam with long form questions where you need to type an answer or create a table then please practice using the text entry box so you know what you need to do on the day of the exam.
Making sure your system is set up correctly ahead of your exam is your responsibility, please work through the recommendations and get in touch with your exam organiser if there is anything you cannot do.
